Daughter’s Day: Gender Parallelism

This daughter’s day, it’s time to celebrate women, the daughters of India…
While discussing gender, a segment of diversity and inclusion through the feminine lens with a friend, we realized that in our attempt to bring daughters to the forefront, men who are equal champions of our cause should share the spotlight.
Understanding the motivation behind why men should engage is essential for consistency in our efforts. Here are a few reasons:

  • The ‘do nothing’ option is irresponsible. It only sanctions and reinforces the status quo.
  • Changing inequalities must involve men, as men are part of the problem and therefore a crucial part of the solution.
  • Most women’s decisions to pursue and remain in careers are influenced by the men in their lives, whether it’s fathers, brothers, friends, colleagues or supervisors.
  • We need men to advocate for accelerating success. It would also be easier as it can prevent an apparent clash between their gender and their leadership would be better accepted in masculine institutions.
  • Men are likely to benefit from broad social and cultural changes associated with gender equality. Less rigid stereotyping of masculinity can increase options for men and yield benefits in psychological well-being for men and boys.
  • When men support a daughter’s career, family life benefits from this decision due to higher levels of self-esteem and confidence.

While the organization’s bottomline would result in benefits, the basic human instinct towards maximization of potential can empower daughters truly…Let’s initiate progress now!
